One of the problems that we can experience in a workplace is to be sexually harassed by our superiors or co-workers. We should know that there is a way that we can prevent this from happening. Aside from that, there are things that we can do to make sure nobody can take advantage of us. Here are the actions on how you can fight sexual harassment in your workplace.
Confront the person who is harassing you
It may not be easy most especially with the thought in our minds that this individual is a threat to our safety. However, it is the first thing that you need to do. Tell the offender that he or she needs to stop. It may not be a comfortable move, but it is often effective. Some people are obnoxious towards the feeling of others. With the things that they are doing, what they have in mind is that it’s alright. If you will talk to them, it is the best way to let them know that you are not happy with what they are doing.
Make a formal complaint in your office
The first person that you need to approach is your direct supervisor. Of course, it is applicable if the supervisor is not the offender. There has to be a due process when you make a complaint. In this case, once you have already talked to your supervisor, they can do some things to make the harassment stop. If the offender doesn’t want to stop, it can be raised into the upper management.
Documentation is the key
If there has been no change after you are done with the confrontation and complaint, it is best that you have everything documented. It is to your benefit if the issue will be brought to court. You can now file a legal complaint to the courthouse to ensure your protection.
Do not be afraid to handle this matter of harassment. The workforce has the right to a healthy working environment, and it can be taken to court if needed.
